Forms of Self-Criticism & Self-Reassurance
The Forms of Self-Criticizing/Reassuring Scale (Gilbert et al., 2004) distinguishes two forms of self-criticism — the “inadequate self” (disappointment, inferiority) and the “hated self” (rejection, hostility) — from the “reassuring self,” the voice that supports you. It ties directly to “two-chair” work and self-compassion.
Instruction: “When things go wrong for me...” — how much each reaction is like you. A self-observation tool, not a diagnosis.
These questionnaires are self-observation tools and are not a substitute for clinical diagnosis by a psychiatrist or another mental health professional.
